Indeed, @HurdyGurdy seems to be suggesting that the TOCs have been acting unlawfully for many years, which is a remarkably confident assertion to make.

I would suggest saying "and will of course pay the full cost for the journey undertaken, along with .....". Else it's a bit presumptuous that they are only going to charge you the difference.

From my recollection they don't state the journey, just where the person was stopped, but I may be wrong.

That's curious, as whenever I see a batch of prosecutions/convictions reported here in GWR land, one element of the amount payable is the fare avoided. But according to your argument the company hasn't suffered a loss, so why would that be part of the amount payable?

Southeastern. It's whichever company the person who stops you works for, which will be the company responsible for staffing the gateline at the station you were stopped at. They will deal with the case throughout, regardless of who's company's train or route you were on.

If GTR adopts a different philosophy in determining the amount of any out of court settlement (and we know that they are at the more favourable end of the spectrum), then it might do I suppose?

Forum advice is to expect, as a worst case scenario, Anytime Singles to be used as a basis, not for the poster to make an offer of that amount. Though we do frequently note where appropriate that GTR, the operator in question for the case cited, appears to have moved recently to a less penal basis.

That would be being so economical with the truth (as you also used it much further back) that it would be regarded as lying. So I don’t recommend that - they almost certainly know anyway.

Given what they said, then provided you haven’t said anything untoward in your response then yes, you will be offered an out of court settlement.
