[Trivia] Seaside Termini with a direct service to London?

Bognor Regis; Littlehampton; Eastbourne (definitely a terminus but maybe not majority of services terminating). Weymouth; Portsmouth Harbour.

    South Croydon Junction

Of course. But I’ll also be interested to see whether any rails are still rusty.

    South Croydon Junction

Was being worked on this Sunday just gone. I’ll see how I get routed on Tuesday.

How was passenger travel handled during WW2?

Somewhere in the depths of my memory is Evelyn Waugh writing about a slow and overcrowded train from the West Country. I think the short answer will be slow, dirty and delayed.

    Dutch Railways DD-AR and VIRM

Talking about there trains - they seem to not be cleaned very often. Any specific reason?

Cross Country cutting out Winchester and Basingstoke stops

I’ve certainly seen a very full, and thus delayed northbound Voyager at Basingstoke on a Saturday morning; well over 50 people getting on.

Does the East Grinstead Branch really need 8 carriage trains?

Corrected. Hoist on my own pedantic petard. I shall try to do better. With lots of love, Robert.

Does the East Grinstead Branch really need 8 carriage trains?

Plenty full mornings to London and evenings from London. Also plenty full at weekends into London late morning and early afternoon. The problem with any broadly commuter service is that a full train going one way needs an emptyish one going the other way. There’s also the East Croydon point...

    Trivia: 3+ changes from York

King’s Cross, Victoria line to Tottenham Hale, then train to Lea Bridge. So two I think.

Geese on the Line Cause Disruption to South-Western Services — 19 April

They jump. They are very light and thus don’t hit the ground at any speed.

Geese on the Line Cause Disruption to South-Western Services — 19 April

Because Egyptian Geese nest in trees (incidentally they are ducks rather than geese despite the name). The parents can fly.

How do the "Brighton" approaches to London Bridge work?

I’ve used London Bridge (Southern/terminating side) quite a lot as my preferred service is the Caterham and Tattenham Corner one. The Up Sussex is, obviously, used frequently. I can’t recall going from the Up Sussex fast to the South London line via the Spur, but it’s possible it’s used by the...

    South Croydon Junction

Sorry. I’m a Purley Oaks person - makes me sound posher than the South Croydon in which I actually reside.

    South Croydon Junction

I don’t disagree. That said the flexibility has been missed occasionally, most notably if a train sits down at South Croydon. It also means nothing can terminate at South Croydon something that is an engineering work option. 1713249761 Thanks.
