Why are wagons left abandoned in sidings?

Sometimes, with some yards owned by operators like NR or private places like Arlington Eastleigh, Matchwood etc. No cost though if your yard is a DB owned yard stored full of DB owned wagons though!

Why are wagons left abandoned in sidings?

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. It can very much vary on the amount of access a team would have without closing the railway to carry out such tasks. That is the main reason why the infamous Sutton Park wagons will just rot away in their positions, as they are too difficult and too...

    XC Voyager Refurbishment

I can understand, the rear vehicle (first class) didn’t sound too bothered about running yesterday and spent all of its time idling when I travelled on it - it sounds similar to the video I linked to above.

    XC Voyager Refurbishment

So despite XCs original suggestion that the ex Avanti units will not be heading down towards the South Coast, 221116 is providing much needed relief today on the Manchester Bournemouth services. Also very welcome to see the shop open, announcements made and hear that it’s actually being utilised...

Siemens bidding to build new trains: who might buy them?

Along with Great Western too. Battery units from a reliable proven manufacturer would tick nicely in that box.

    XC Voyager Refurbishment

Indeed, Avanti over Virgin base, with XC logos on top. It'lll be noticeable from the front by having a cleaner yellow cab ends that's for certain. Nameplates also temporarily retained too. (Not my video)

Harrogate Station. Whats behind the yellow and black doors?

One quick search led me back to the forum : Parcels Depot https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/harrogate-station.97618/

First South West (Kernow & Buses of Somerset)

I presume this is it then, albeit in a typically unfinished First bus state. A bit of a shame if Kernow is lost to that, Sure Kernow needs a tidy up (and binning off of disused brands such as the Day|Tripper, Copper etc) but to go from some of the smart liveries First has had across it's Op Co's...

    Stagecoach South & South East

Indeed, I believe Stagecoach managed to secure only a 2 year lease extension for Leas Road at the time of taking over from Arriva. Those 2 years have crept up, and Stagecoach has either been unsuccessful in securing a longer lease or didn't wish to renegotiate further. Considering that it's at...

    Old HTA wagons

Indeed, it does feel odd seeing those end up in scrapyards already. Some are still in use with GBRf on the very last (Ratcliffe?) coal traffic, while some are stored in places like Exeter Riverside Yard. I’m a little surprised about that as I recall Riverside was one of the yards given up by DB...

    Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central GWR

If you think that most of the West Country branches are “far less profitable obscure branch lines” then more fool you I’m afraid. The Devon Metro, Falmouth branch and St Ives have been heaving in recent weeks, and as the weather gets warmer, will only increase for those that head to the coast...

SWR Class 458 to be retained

They are. It's basically been a carpet and seats job, toilets remain the same. Not exactly, the interior walls in the Desiro's are white. The grab handles needed doing as they were looking quite rough. The oddest part though are the seats next to the doors where the vestibule walls where cut...
