Tourism : Hidden Gems within the UK .. where ?

There can usually be solace found amongst the rolling uplands of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Small villages, with some splendid churches, chalk streams and a few decent pubs.

RMT turns down Network Rail Pay Offer

Sadly, Network Rail aren't so accommodating when it comes to a signaller delay. You soon find yourself filling out an incident report and looking at a development plan.

    If all trains are automated.

Are we talking about the national rail network, with its countless level crossings, of different types? The current digital railway project on the East Coast Main Line does suggest that frequency would increase, but there are probably a number of different factors to make that effective.

Who responds to level crossing failures?

They'll be grateful for that praise. You are right though, wherever they are it's always a welcome sight.

Who responds to level crossing failures?

As The Puddock mentions, it could be a trainee MOM. They will be learning the role, but may not have sufficient competencies. Ironically, Eastern Region increased the headcount of MOMs, to then announce redundancies amongst that grade. The question of level crossing operation and failures has...

RMT turns down Network Rail Pay Offer

What are these break times? Fine for a multi-staffed location with a defined meal relief on duty. However, single staffed locations rely on natural gaps in traffic. Not too bad on a line that has 2-6 trains an hour, but not so easy to achieve in a location, on a 12-hour shift pattern, dealing...

Midland lines around Buxton: what's the history, and could they be better utilised in future?

Other more informed people may answer this better. However, the line through Chee Dale was the main line to/from Manchester for the Midland Railway. This is the route of the current freight only line from Chinley. Where the route now turns towards Buxton, it carried on towards Bakewell, Matlock...

Trivia: Level crossings with no pedestrian access while they're down

As many have already posted numerous examples, I'm reminded of Newark Castle and an incident involving passengers. It was on the Saturday of Lincoln Christmas Market. Services had been strengthened, including using a 5-car Meridian on stopping services. Knowing the unit would foul the level...

    Football

Two wins in 48 hours, and the last 4 games unbeaten saw Grantham Town safe from relegation. A great turn around despite languishing at the bottom.of the NPL East for most of the season. The last game of the season is now a formality, though it could see hosts Winterton Rangers relegated.

    A career as a signaller

Apologies. I noticed this hadn't been answered. As I understand it, the increase to your Annual Leave entitlement is effective on the anniversary date of commencing employment.

    Mystery Key

The assumption from the Tracks Through Grantham team is Highdyke, South of Grantham. This may / may not be correct. A retired signaller friend has confirmed that, if it is Highdyke nr Grantham, then all the points were worked from the frame.
