    Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket

That's what I thought however the ticket inspector between Schwerin and Wismar insisted we show him the live app, not just a screenshot of the big square coded picture!!

    Loco haulage around Hamburg?

True. Plenty of electric haulage IC and EC too, including the Czech trains. And masses of freight for those who collect numbers. Buchen and Luneburg good for spotting freights.

    Loco haulage around Hamburg?

Having travelled here now I can confirm plenty of loco haulage Bremen- Hamburg, Sylt-Hamburg, Kiel- Hamburg, Schwerin-Hamburg, Hannover-Hamburg. Also Uelzen-Magdeburg. In fact it's relatively easy to travel around parts of north Germany on loco hauled if you're not in a hurry. Better than I'd...

Doh! So I need to collect, an envelope from a staffed station?

    Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket

Just an update: DB will not entertain any delay repay type compensation for those using the €49 Deutschland ticket. Our 1308 train from Uelzen to Braunschweig cancelled. Compensation envelopes given to those with ordinary tickets but we're told "not for you with your Deutschland ticket"...

    German Rail in decline ?

You are right about cyclists. There were over 20 bikes trying to get on the 2-car 1402 Lübeck to Szczecin! Several failed and got 1503 instead. Incidentally the Bremen Hamburg double deckers have half a carriage just for bikes. This morning it was nearly full.

    German Rail in decline ?

Judging by the number of Polish people on the train I would think a lot would go the whole way! They mostly changed onto a Rostock loco hauled service at Bad Kleinen and, fair play to DB, they held our Schwerin connection too, (also a loco hauled RE double deck set). I think the engineering...

    German Rail in decline ?

Ha ha, so they've actually doubled the capacity!!

    German Rail in decline ?

Judging by the hordes at Lübeck this afternoon I'd say not in decline as far as usage is concerned. However the introduction of woefully inadequate new rolling stock is contributing to a severe decline in customer comfort, safety and punctuality. Today's trip from Bremen to Kiel was via two loco...

Wuppertal / Dusseldorf / Cologne Ticket Validity

Oh ok. I'm sure we were stopped at some stations last year before/after getting a train, (eg: Goerlitz), but maybe remembered the wrong country!! Still waiting to be asked for my Deutschland ticket!

Station secrets - tips and tricks

If travelling south from Birmingham, Cheltenham is a good place to change trains, particularly if the one you're on is followed by one going further, eg: needing to go south of Bristol. It's just one southbound platform at Cheltenham with cafe and toilets all level access from it.

Wuppertal / Dusseldorf / Cologne Ticket Validity

It really isn't hard to cancel the Deutschland ticket. On the Hamburg based HVV app you just click to cancel and confirm. On the Bremenn based Fahrplanner you just click on the email they sent to confirm the ticket and click the cancel button from that. This doesn't cancel your current months...

Route of EC 8 Zurich Hamburg

Thanks for the replies, I'd expected to go via Hamm but maybe diverted due to bank holiday? Nice route, 80mph average, scenic too.

Route of EC 8 Zurich Hamburg

Currently on EC8 running about 30 late at Dortmund. We're on the single track line via Werne headed to Munster. Does anyone know if this is it's usual route?
