I've read it and it is full of flaws. One only has to look at the worked example of York to Beverley to see the worst.
I'd recommend everyone reading both of Beeching's reports. The second one is even more nonsensical than the first.
I must admit that while the traction's becoming a bit dull these days, the network's still quite interesting, particularly some of the quieter by-ways.
It's quite often for the train to be there, but for people to be waiting for it to be unlocked. This often happens when another train is sharing the platform.
Removing duplicate routes has time and time again proved to be a terrible idea. He should have stayed making paint.
Anyhow, back to this line, I certainly think that it would be as successful as the Windermere line.

It might be a reality of the business case, however it demonstrates that the methodology of the business case is anti-rail as it fails to take account of the many potential benefits of a rail connection.
The point is, that the anti-rail brigade will jump upon any sense of diversionary capability for a proposal and come up with "oh, you can't make a case on diversions" when many proposed routes are worthwhile as part of the day to day network.
I would hope that Sir John Betjeman would have been afforded similar leeway on account of being a stalwart of the struggle to get free of Beeching and the disastrous closure programme. I suspect not though, sadly.
I'd hope that they wouldn't rely on "plans for the new station" to resolve the issue. Aren't these where the old Adolphus street goods depot used to be and therefore miles away from the centre !
