Northern line train evacuation at Clapham Common

The RAIB report into this incident has now been published https://www.gov.uk/government/news/report-032024-uncontrolled-evacuation-of-a-partially-platformed-train-at-clapham-common-london-underground-station

    What is first class?

What you consider to be a “proper First class” is a relatively new innovation post-privatisation, with prior to that First class on InterCity services typically including tea and coffee and maybe a packet of biscuits/snacks or the odd exception like some wine on a Friday evening train. Food...

2024 Local, Mayoral and PCC Elections

I would imagine if the Conservatives do better than the polling suggests there will be questions in the Conservative Party as to how they ended up with such a rubbish candidate.

Central line - shortage of serviceable trains

They don’t usually publish TTNs [Timetable Notices] on that page (some years they publish the Met line leaf fall season). If nobody else has done so you could ask for it under FoI though. The poster above has given the details of what to ask for.

    HS2 TBM Progress

Does anyone know what the issue with the siding at West Ruislip being taken out of commission is? It’s been closed at least a week now with HS2 saying some kind of “safety audit” is needed. A letter from the council (who have increased the permitted hours of road deliveries) to residents implies...

Refunds to Oyster Web Account no longer available.

ls the content in the OP an official quote from TfL or your own supposition of the current position? On the applicable page in my account it used to show any previous refunds l had collected and it also had a link for me to click for a previous failed refund (it was about 10 years old and dated...

    Customs Presence at UK Airports

When arriving earlier this year (cannot remember where from) into Terminal 5 there were Border force officers with a dog at the airport end of the jetbridge asking customers to hold their bags low to their left at the height of the dog. I didn’t really understand what they were asking until...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

I get that but it is possible with Lner as they allow you to just tick a button and they arrange assistance bookings behind the scenes. I’ve only just got the person back to using Trainsplit after the nightmare of booking assistance last time, and now this has just happened.

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

I appreciate it isn’t a priority but is there any chance Trainsplit may allow customers to book mobility assistance alongside their tickets? I mentioned on the forum last year that I had a bit of a nightmare with LNER refusing to book assistance with a split ticket (they said I only had a 1...

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

There are some Premier Inns that don’t have a restaraunt or pub adjacent but which serve breakfast. There’s a Beefeater and conjoined Premier Inn near my house but the Beefeater closed down a few months ago allegedly to convert into extra Premier Inn rooms. Despite local pubs being busy and a...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

Am getting an error message when attempting to pay for a ticket. This screen appears after having input my name and Email address on the "billing information" screen but before inputting card details. Screenshot attached. The "real" Trainsplit website works fine and I've booked the tickets on...

    Flights you have been on

Most of the comments/complaints on other forums and in news articles etc, state that it was never requested if you were travelling hand baggage only. There are numerous comments from frequent flyers who were never requested to present ID. You were only formally requested to present ID if...

    Flights you have been on

Not quite. Prior to 1 Sept the wording was merely a suggestion: “we advise that you carry photographic identification with you when travelling, such as your passport or driving licence.” Whereas now it is quite clear that it is mandatory to provide photo ID.

    Flights you have been on

BA have “always” (in recent memory) required ID for checking in bags, but only started mandating it for hand baggage customers as of Sept last year, prior to that it was only advisory. 1714252820 It isn’t the law. When BA started requiring photo ID on domestic flights in September the CAA...

Door open on moving DLR train

Given that passenger emergency alarms are typically located near the doors, the train is quite clearly not busy with everyone seated and nobody near the doors, it seems to me quite sensible that nobody operated the alarm in between stations as this could have resulted in someone falling out.

Double red lines in roads outside of London?

You can stop on double yellows with loading restrictions for the purpose of picking up / dropping off a passenger, whereas you can’t on red lines (unless for a blue badge holder, licensed taxi/private hire, bus at designated bus stop or other authorised vehicle)

    The 2024 London Mayoral Election

lt’s all so uninspiring for transport isn’t it? A series of relatively cheap wins to improve transport in outer London rather than another network of slow buses would be to build new platforms at locations where existing rail lines cross, but where there is no interchange.
