New (rebuilt) station at Kings Lynn

This article: https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/24324219.bid-new-norfolk-railway-station-kings-lynn-unveiled/ suggests that the Eastern Powerhouse group are the ones pushing the idea:

Parade and Marching Band over Level Crossing

I think actual "elimination" here would mean convincing NR to replace the crossing with a bridge. It's probably a bit tight to get that done for next month though.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

How does terminating the 360s at Market Harborough work operationally? I guess a northbound service empties out, continues north over the crossover and then reverses? Is there enough timetable spaces to do this without impacting other services?

Cambridge South new station construction progress.

Comparing a right-way-up and and upside-down image, right-way-up has the EXIF Orientation flag as "Horizontal (normal)" and upside-down has "Rotate 180". Based on the accompanying acceleration data, I'd say that it depends on whether you have the phone tilted slightly backwards or forwards...

Cambridge South new station construction progress.

Out of curiosity, I assume the previews for some of these pictures are upside-down for everyone? I guess it's an image orientation thing that the preview generation isn't picking up.

Mind the gap errm I mean...Plant. At what point does the railway decide it's time for a trim of the plant growth on the line?

In the defence of train crew, they would hardly have the tools or materials to remove it, all they could do is report it.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Personally I would love to see CS use St. Pancras instead of Euston. St Pancras is just a much grander station than Euston and would fit the "premium experience" thing that CS are going for. Also it would be attractive for Eurostar connections. I realise however that there are about a trillion...

Headbolt Lane to Kirkby not electrified due to "safety concerns" ?

This is a valid part of the risk profile though. If there is something that is a danger to people, the probability of injuries and death scales with the number of at-risk people. True, but irrelevant. You don't stop considering one safety aspect because another part of the system is inherently...

Headbolt Lane to Kirkby not electrified due to "safety concerns" ?

The footnote in the ORR document is, in full: I cannot find the "Network Rail Electrical Power Asset Policy" document this refers to

HS2 Euston - Development, design and construction news (not speculation, please)

Given the number of times HS2 has been cut back and de-scoped, you'll forgive me if I don't believe what Huw Merriman says about it.

    Redcar Level Crossing Accident (01/05)

Being angry that this incident happened is understandable, but if you took this attitude to driving in general you would never get in a car at all. There are many, many risks on the road and "failure of a level crossing" is way, way down the list.

    Redcar Level Crossing Accident (01/05)

The barriers are not across the road in the picture in the article. It is possible they were retracted after the collision to allow for emergency service access? Otherwise that's a pretty serious incident.

HS2 Euston - Development, design and construction news (not speculation, please)

I will eat all my hats if in the next 50 years battery energy densities get to the necessary numbers to make a viable 100+ passenger, medium/long-range electric aircraft, VTOL or not.

    Find the Tube Game

Thanks again! It looks like that's been missed singe the beginning. It makes sense, there are 272 individual tube stations, but three (Hammersmith, Edgware Road, Paddington) share the same name, so there are only 269 with unique names. There are now 269 unique station names in the game when only...

Ah yes, this is a known issue with Chrome/Chromium based browers (https://github.com/Leaflet/Leaflet/issues/4125).

    Find the Tube Game

Anything else you can tell me about when it happens? I've just had a quick try with firefox and it's OK - at least to begin with!

DHELM: Why are UK railways so bad?

I know, and I think Prof. Helm knows that too. My read of the article is that he's suggesting more can be done to use drones and other automated/remote monitoring technologies.

DHELM: Why are UK railways so bad?

I think this is unfair. It's pretty clear from the article that he is referring to the use of drones in the context of inspection of network assets ("...drone usage in place of manual track inspections..." and "...this in turn requires information about the network and the location of the...

    Find the Tube Game

Hm. In that case the colour of my TfL roundel is wrong and now I am very confused. It's correct in the wikimedia source I got it from, so I must have changed it, but no idea why I would do that. Anyway, a simple fix. Not sure what I'll do to avoid the ambiguity - I suppose the obvious question...
