    Future of the GWR electrification

Though the question could be raised as to why a low-speed, single track branch needs more intrusive OHLE than a 100mph main line, other than “that’s how we do it now, stupid boy!”.

Peak times for ticket validity should be determined by the train, not the ticket

As in my original post, on the train or (at a discount) in advance.

Peak times for ticket validity should be determined by the train, not the ticket

No - as clearly stated in my original post, a supplement would be payable for the “red” section only.

Peak times for ticket validity should be determined by the train, not the ticket

No - the only section of the Edinburgh train which is “red” is to Newcastle.

Peak times for ticket validity should be determined by the train, not the ticket

Not necessarily - for two reasons. The first one is that the Edinburgh departure is "against the flow" so would probably count as off-peak anyway. However, if it didn't: Use a differentiating colour and (say) italics on all timetables and PIS. Red = peak; blue = off-peak. So the Edinburgh...

But stand by for Goring Gap levels of objections if similar structures are proposed.

Does anybody know anything about this railway curve?

The London Railway Atlas (Joe Brown, 2009) shows the curve, with the note that the earthworks for the curve were completed (without a date), but that the track was never laid for through running. The embankment (doesn't say which bit) was used as a siding for a time.

    Signalling to help the schedules?

There was / is a similar one at Treforest asking drivers whether they were stopping at Treforest Estate - one of the rare Valleys stations where not everything stops (though I think they now do - or soon will).

    Great Western 165/166 on WCML

5Q81 - perhaps. 166 210 on its way to Bristol (just got there!) Apologies didn’t notice when you’d posted - as said below it was probably the one going to take its place.

    Quintinshill

Ironically,- the cemetery housing the memorial was always in Edinburgh, not Leith. The boundary ran down the middle of Pilrig Street, just outside the cemetery wall.

Winning friends and influencing people Network Rail style. Using other people's property/causing prolonged disruption, legal threats, no agreed compo

If people choose not to read the publications which are used for the statutory publication of consultation documents, that is their problem - especially when those directly affected are also written to on an individual basis. Where else do you suggest these notices are published? (I assume that...

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

I may have said this on this thread before - if so apologies. Pre strikes I was purchasing a monthly ticket and therefore commuting by train most days in every month - accepting that there would be the odd day when I had to drive which I couldn’t calculate in at the time of purchase. Now I’m on...

Their objections might have been dismissed - but perhaps not their claims for appropriate compensation. If you are invited to register objections and do not do so, you have only yourself to blame if it is assumed that you do not have any.

    Future of the GWR electrification

There is definitely a need for through services across Bristol. Whether they need to be provided by the Portsmouth - Cardiff is another question. I suspect the MOD might have something to say about the loss of a through service from Portsmouth to Filton AW - even if rarely used!

    Bristol Temple Meads works

Noticed today (first visit in a month) that the scaffolding deck now extends the whole way through the trainshed (ie the two ends now meet in the middle.) Some of the glass panels removed from the roof and people in orange visible from the outside working on the roof. First time I’ve actually...

    New Station for Okehampton

Don’t think that’s the function of any of the existing Parkways named “town Parkway”. You could do it at Bristol - but there wouldn’t be much point.

    Future of the GWR electrification

The Filton Abbey Wood terminator is only that in the short / medium term. It’ll eventually be going on to Henbury (and already disappears off up the branch to turn round).

Best ever train to run on UK mainline (excluding HS1)

Having said that, given the dodgy ventilation / air-con, the atmosphere inside the 57xxx car when smoking was still a thing was vile!
