    Curzon Street Signalling?

Unless my memory is failing, theywere very much in the same room when I used to visit there!

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

No, but for reasons I’ve never understood I ‘register’ the number plate of every car that goes past me. Having said that, I did, this afternoon, make a point of going out specifically to check 24 plate cars to see what proportion were EVs. The answer is 61% (sample size 59). Obviously too small...

    The headspans' last stand

It isn‘t. I confidently predict that Headspans will be with us in large quantities until the railways are de-electrified.

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

    Nope. I’d heard that too.

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

I’m quite surprised at the sales numbers. At least half of all 24 plate cars I am seeing are EVs. And it’s not just because I live in Hertfordshire, this is my observation all over the country. I do accelt that official numbers are more reliable than the BR eyeball though.

Virgin Atlantic economy on the 787

If there’s space on the plane, you will be able to upgrade to delight at the airport pre departure. If flying from LHR give yourself plenty of time to do so, as Virgin customer servcies seem to get all sorts of odd enquiries that take ages to resolve (unlike ‘upgrade please’)

Winning friends and influencing people Network Rail style. Using other people's property/causing prolonged disruption, legal threats, no agreed compo

That‘s quite a jaundiced view. I don’t know the details here. I do know the details of other projects with TWAOs / other primary consents where the community relations teams did excellent jobs, but come up against an awkward neighbour or three who make a load of noise regardless of how well...

    Easyjet news

More importantly for the airline sector, they have announced the departure of their CEO, Johan Ludgren, being replaced by the Chief Finance Officer, Kenton Jarvis. Some fairly strong rumours circulating that easyjet are a takeover target. Wizz had a try recently but that was a bit fanciful.

    Jubilee line extension beyond Stratford

But the thread is about extending the Jubilee to Walthamstow or beyond. In any event, theres no capacity in the existing platforms 11/12 for more services from the Lea Valley. And building more platforms to the east would be very expensive.

    Football

Not just the biggest losers, but the biggest losers through VAR by a long distance since it was introduced. 17 points according to ESPN. The next biggest loser, Arsenal, has lost 7. You can understand why Wolves fans feel a) aggrieved, b) singled out and c) sing that the FA is corrupt. I...

Derby Telegraph "Plans to convert Monsal Trail back into railway takes 'significant step forward'"

No doubt that some new lines / stations exceed their passenger forecasts; that’s why you hear about them. However Project promoters aren’t known for putting out press releases telling all and sundry that passenegr numbers are below forecasts. Ask Airdrie - Bathgate, or East Mids Parkway, or...

How does Waterloo only get 60 million passengers yet each SWR train I get is packed like sardines?

Less than half. But it was by far and away the smallest segment (Leisure is highest and 5 x the size, closely followed by commuting). Also business travel is seeing much higher growth than the other segments. Leisure is essentially flat now, whilst commuting is double digit growth, mostly...

    Jubilee line extension beyond Stratford

Wait, what? Resolving Highams Park LX is impractical, but tunnelling under Stratford regional station, the basements of Westfield and HS1 (which itself is located beneath the water table), and building new platforms for the Jubilee, is all practical?

I do hope that all the ‘reopening lines’ proponents are taking note. Building railways is not easy, even when you already own the land!

Anyone noticed anecdotally another uptick in passenger numbers

Still loads of ‘room’ to grow, especially off peak.

For an exam project: I need a bit more info on The Great Train Robbery.

Ah. Well you could go, but I agree it would be a very large effort for the extra knowledge gained! But the cakes are very good.

Virgin Atlantic economy on the 787

I’ve flown both economy and economy delight. Legroom ok in the former, and loads in the latter (I’m tall). Also with Delight you can use the PE check in, which helps a little. I would usually choose delight, but not at £500 extra. That’s PE territory.
