Blackpool South was never a grand station. It was thrust into undeserved prominence in the 1960s thanks to the truncation of the Blackpool Central line there.

The original Blackpool North is the one that should have been retained. Perfect location, not over-large and not in bad condition when it closed.

Central was obviously too big and had never recovered from being crashed into by an American plane during the war. A shame it wasn’t retained as a simple 2-platform terminus at the end of the Lytham line; huge amounts of railway land could still have been freed up for Blackpool Council to have their evil way with. Which they still haven’t, 60 years later…
