Recently finding (from a union perspective) companies are totally unable to sack staff considered a nuisance, so find trivial matters such as wearing a hat at the wrong angle ie some nonsense gross misconduct charge.

The UK tribunal system should all over this to send a clear message to employers that if your going to sack someone for something - find something good, however their derisory cash awards of a few grand totally send the wrong message. That's where plan B (industrial action) and C (abject mischief in contacting regulators, press & media) are now considered more effective by many.

It does seem strange that a passenger would approach a member of staff and ask for a refund but then leave without the cash...
One possibility is that the customer thought the refund was going back on the oyster card. They might have only noticed later when the credit did not appear.

How would someone refunding an Oyster card expect the refund to "go back" on the Oyster card?

Sorry in the original post where it said an oyster refund of 2.40 I thought it was for a missed journey or something.
