Newcastle metro - Easter shutdown

Good evening,

Looking for some help please in interpreting the advice on the metro website around the Easter weekend major works.

I take closure between Heworth and South Gosforth to mean that there will still be trains from St James to the coast (indeed from St James to South Gosforth via the coast). Am I right? our plans can live w this but not if there are no metros to the coast as well.

Many thanks for your help and apologies if this is a pretty simplistic request. Cheers

Yes, the trains should run between St James and South Gosforth via the Coast, as well as between Airport and South Gosforth, as although there isn't a timetable for the Metros showing, it does highlight where the buses will run. Trains at the other end of the system should run between Heworth and South Shields/South Hylton

Glad to hear that the South Gosforth - St James section is still open as Newcastle have a home match against West Ham on Easter Saturday, or there abouts if TV scheduling alters the time/day.

Saturday, 16 March 2024 - No trains between Heworth and South Gosforth

No trains between Heworth and South Gosforth Saturday 16 March

On Saturday 16 March, no trains will run between Heworth and South Gosforth while track junction renewal work takes place in Metro tunnels under Newcastle city centre.

Trains will be running elsewhere on the system but may not be to the usual timetable. Please check train times before travelling and leave extra time for your journey. Trains will not stop at Monument platforms 3 or 4 during the work, trains will run through the platforms without stopping. Anyone who would usually travel from or to Monument platform 3 or 4 should use St James or Manors.

Central Station will be fully closed during the work.

Replacement bus service
A replacement bus service number 900 will be running between Heworth and South Gosforth (the bus will continue to Regent Centre to turn). Your journey will take longer so please leave extra time for travelling.

According to Nexus there are no metros from Heworth-South Gosforth this weekend, 16th/17th, but journey planners (at least LNER and Trainline) haven’t been updated and are still suggesting to use the metro if you search for tickets from Sunderland to Newcastle.

Edit to above: if you select a train and click “show all calling points” it doesn’t list Gateshead, Gateshead Stadium or Felling, but still makes no mention of the fact it’s a bus between Central Station and Heworth.
