(Hypothetical, no incident in the background.)

There are numerous reports from people who were unable to present a railcard, but say they did have one, in date. Physical card forgotten or digital card not working for some reason.

It may take up to six months for the TOC to follow up. They may be willing (once a year) to accept retrospective presentation of that railcard. In the meantime, the railcard may have expired (could be a matter of days). A physical railcard could be retained, showing the original validity dates. What of a digital railcard - once it has expired, is there any evidence it ever existed ?

It shows up in the app coloured grey and with a red mark EXPIRED. You may also have an email confirmation of buying it, as well as see it in you purchase history on Railcard website after logging in.

Can confirm. Have both old one marked expired and new one showing in the app. The expired one doesn't show the photo or logo, but does have the expiry date and railcard number on it.

You would also have the purchase confirmation email (albeit some people are in the habit of deleting emails).

Thanks.

No photo, could get interesting if asked for as evidence, especially if there is no newer railcard, such as after the end of 16-25 entitlement. It is, of course, entirely possible that this combination of circumstances will never arise.

Note: Too many years spent fighting IT systems that are great at steady-state business-as-usual, but deficient at the edges, so I now go looking for those scenarios.

If it's in the same app as a live railcard is it likely to have belonged to anyone else?
