Looks like today was the first day that a 465 operated a Ashford - Victoria service. Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread covering:

Diagrams
Allocations
Possible withdrawal of the 377s

How much slower are these services now? Are dwell times longer with the extra padding to accommodate the 75mph speed limit?

No adjustment needed. The SRTs for 375s & 465s are identical across pretty much all the Southeastern Network. Which is why the 2A xx03 AFK - VIC services that are fast Ashford to Bearsted often get in 1-2 minutes early as 375/377.

The MDE line has a top speed of 80mph (other than the 90mph limit between Chislehurst Jct and Swanley), with the line alternating between 70 and 80mph between Otford and Ashford, with lower speeds through Otford Jct, Maidstone-Bearsted and approaching Ashford. A 465/466 formation won't be under speed for much, nor by much, and the relatively frequent stops also prevent any service sustaining top speed for long. If anything a 465's better acceleration at lower speeds makes them perform better than 375/377s when making regular calls.

When the class 377/5s go back to Southern will the current Charing Cross to Ashford via Tonbridge be extended to Ramsgate via Canterbury West?

When are the Saturday diagrams due to start? From earlier observations no 465+466 was out on the above ones despite being in September.

If it is aligned with the changes on Southern the diagram change should be next Saturday, rather than this.

Is this the only route that Southeastern currently has 6-car 465/466 services on? All the other routes tend to most commonly be 8 or 10 car, with the odd 12 car on the metro routes.

Are 8 car 465s not possible on the Maidstone East/Ashford line? I'm guessing it's because of 6 car platforms and no selective door opening?

Basically yes. Kemsing, Barming, Hollingbourne, Harrietsham and Charing are all 6-car maximum without SDO. In theory an 8-car 465 set could use the line if on the semi-fast calling pattern, so I'd have thought an 8-car could be allocated to any of the MDE-CHX diagrams in the December timetable change, but I don't know what will be allocated where from December on that line, only that 375/377s will probably still form a large majority of diagrams.

Isn’t everything non HS1 on South Eastern timed at 75mph regardless of stock capability as a performance measure? It certainly used to be.

Think the Hastings, all Bromley South fasts (Chatham + Maidstone but not stoppers via Denmark Hill) and the Ashford via Tonbridges are pathed as 100mph, and the Tunbridge Wells + Bromley South to Chatham slows via Denmark Hill are pathed as 90mph

This is the case in reality - Hence why 375s and 465s have the same SRTs across Kent - Which is why a 375/377 will get to Bearsted a couple of minutes early on a fast run from Ashford whereas a 465 will be much closer to time.

What is an SRT? Why don’t they (or didn’t they) make use of the extra speed of a 377 to decrease journey times?

Considering the relative closeness of stops there isn't much of a difference between 75mph and 90/100mph running for most of the SE Network, and in the case of Bearsted-Ashford, that non-stop run appears to be disappearing from December, except I presume for SEML diversions when engineering works shut the SEML anywhere between Sevenoaks and Ashford.

SRT - Sectional Running Time. The time taken by a type or types of traction to traverse a section of track and used to calculate/create timetables from.

In the case of much of the South-Eastern Network, the lack of sustained 75mph+ running in most places means having homogenised SRTs is probably more sensible.

Given 377s accelerate more slowly and creep up quite sluggishly at higher speeds because of the third-rail current draw limitations, I doubt you'd see much in the way of savings, certainly not on stopping workings.

Indeed, to the point there were even a few Class 455 SRTs on Southern which were quicker than the equivalent Electrostar timings.

I am wondering if this will continue after December timetable when VIC- AFK reduce to hourly and RAM services end on the Mid Kent Line. Today we see most services running 8 cars but 2N52 a peak service running 465/9 466 so no real logic. I also see that 2A56 is a 7 car, presumably 375/* and 375/3.

There’s a weekday diagram (peaks only) from December that runs at slightly different times. No weekend work.

Presumably the number of Networker diagrams could increase when the partial 377/5s cascade happens, but as this hasn't been arranged yet it won't be in place for December.
