28/05/85. I appear to have been there a week before too. In brighter conditions, 47372 stands beside the main depot building229.jpg

Swinging over to the West Midlands.

26/05/85. 86035 has just been attached to the 11.59 Portsmouth - Manchester at BNS and will take the train to its destination. 47612 had brought it up from the south.

Looks like i jumped on the attraction of the above 86/0, as not long after I am in Wolverhampton taking this shot of 47627 heading the 14.00 Euston - Shrewsbury. I assume I managed to resist the charms of an ETH Duff...

What a scalp. 8-) I well recall 86/0 and 86/3 a-plenty, passing my school (adjacent to the WCML) in the early 1980s. I didn't realise those sub-classes lasted into 1985.

04/06/85. I have this as 31156, but with a question mark in my notes. Certainly it is a non ETH example which by then was fairly unusual on these workings, hence the attention of enthusiasts in the front carriage. 18.20 Birmingham - Norwich, departing from Leicester.

Going back to this one. It might be 31156 pre refurbishment. It was certainly refurbished by June 1986 and it’s definitely a non ETH class 31/1.

Irn-Bru claim that their product is made in Scotland from girders. The Ad Execs pressumably got their inspiration for the tag line after arriving by train into Glasgow Central...

25/10/86. Local services gather in the middle platforms.

Yes, thats interesting. I have my July '85 Platform 5 Motive Power pocket Book still around (alas, I don't have my bashing logs anymore) and it doesn't even list 86035 - or any other 86/0. That photo and haulage must have been right at the very end of its life being numbered that way.

It may have been renumbered as 86 435. Sorry I can't confirm as I am currently in Italy....and my bashing/spotting books are in Yorkshire!

I’ve heard some excuses in my time. ;)

31/07/85. i've only really included this picture for the freight wagons being conveyed. Light was extremely marginal for this one. 47545 at Exeter.410 final.jpg

That’s a wonderful shot. Some of your photos really capture something of the drama in the everyday scene. Love it.
Much appreciated. I think we have the same eye, as that is what really draws me into quite a few of my favourite images as well.

You were very lucky to get a photo of that loco on a day when it wasn't on fire! It spontaneously combusted on three different occasions when I was being hauled by it! o_O

Lostwin, I’m sure I speak for many of us when I say thank you for posting all your photos.
The atmosphere of what you captured is so nostalgic and coincides time wise with many of the locations around the country that I was familiar with. Images that might have seemed commonplace forty years ago have nearly disappeared so you have done your bit for posterity!

Not surprised by the Newton Abbot box, but glad to hear the Woking box has protected status - it is a great looking structure.

Working back north again for the very last knockings of what I have available to post.

21/10/86. I remember these trollies being used for a variety of tasks, but two long rails and a pile of sleepers is a bit extreme nevertheless. Shot at Carlisle.

21/10/86. Again at Carlisle, 86414 & 86427 probably didn't have this in mind when they acquired their Executive liveries. i do recall there was regular steel coil traffic to be moved at the time and pairs were needed for the challenging banks.

09/07/86. A nice overview of the impressive Perth Station layout. 47633 arrives in charge of the 09.23 Edinburgh - Inverness.
