On my Flickr page of Sheffield Victoria Station
http://www.flickr.com/groups/sheffield-victoria-station/

There are some very rare photos of Sheffield Victoria that people have taken , my question is have you taken a rare picture, for e.g the last train on a line before it closed or a passenger train on a very rare route that now you are glad you took it as there is nothing like it around ?

:D
In one of your pics of Victoria it shows the driver waving.
This driver is Benard Oldroyd, Huddersfield driver, and the man next to him is also an Huddersfield Guard who's name is Eric Hamilton
I started on the railway at Huddersfield as a guard in
1981. I have worked through Vic with the Huddersfield DMU on a regular basis, till I moved to HM in July 1982.
In later years I inspected the steel sidings at Deepcar every 3 months as a RMT Health and Safety Rep.
I have some pics of the last train down the Clayton West Branch taken on Saturday, 22nd January 1983.
Also the complete signaling layout at Clayton West Junction taken in the late 1970's.

I need to go through my albums to find them, but I have pictures of:

* Class 87s at St Pancras during diversions ( which included drags to Bedford from Bletchley?? I think it was. )

* Class 117 at Waterloo ( route learning for GW via Sheepcote Lane Chord )

* Class 321/9s at King's Cross during the Mk4 grounding episode.

Plus, I started a thread a couple of days ago with a picture of a 56 propelling a pair of EPBs during the "wrong snow" year...

If you can remind me when the Mk4 grounding was, I can find my pictures a lot quicker; I have over 17,600 photos in my albums - all in chronological order.

bse35, yes - I'll look for them tonight now that 158757 has reminded me of the date.

I'll try to find mine of the 87s at St P as well now that we have the date from Paul's pictures.

Right; I've found my pictures of the 321/9s at King's cross - actually 20th June 1998.

Pictures 12061/2 were at 17.10
Picture 12063 at 17.33
Picture 12064 at 17.35
Pictures 12065/6 at 17.49

All were at f4 1/60 except 12065, which was at 1/125. Can't remember if I was using ASA100 or 200 then; I do have a note of when I switched from 100 to 200 but can't find the note right now...!!

In picture 12066, yes - the two units are coupled up.

From speaking to staff on the spot, 321 903 was also running that day but I missed it for a photo.

It's a bit late tonight now so I'll look for my own MML 87 photos tomorrow if I can.

I can't remember the reason now; I think it was something to do with the doors.

Yes, there is one rake in the next platform - but those were the only two sets I saw at the time so probably very few had been inspected and passed fit for service on that day.

I'm guessing the grounding is worth of a thread in itself - someone here must have full details of it?

I found my MML electrics diversion pictures.:)

12th October 1991 at St Pancras:

Pictures 7449/50: 87 017 and 87 031, f4 1 second 18.09
Pictures 7452/3: 87 017, f4 1 second 18.15

2nd November 1991 at Bedford:

Picture 7486: 86 240, f4 1/125 14.15
Pictures 7488/9: 87 020, f4 1/125 14.28
Picture 7490: 82137, f4 1/125 14.29

So it wasn't just the 87s, at least one 86 made it as well - and probably more.

Is it just me or is the OHLE at St Pancras quite high compared to most other places, any reason for that or am I just imagining it?

Now, here's a few more unique pictures, the first one especially so...

Picture 7020: the very first Eurostar carriage fresh off the MV Nord pas de Calais ferry at Dover, being dragged through Dover Priory station by 09 021 during a shunting maneouvre at 16.01 on 11th June 1991. As I understand it, this vehicle was brought over for gauging tests and was later returned to France and became part of 3001/2. This is not a mock up - it was the first actual bodyshell built. Picture is at f4 1/125.

Pictures 9267 to 9271 are a bit blurry, but in the circumstances I don't think any of you will mind - it is 3001/2, not yet made up to full length, arriving in the UK for the very first time on 17th september 1993, seen here being hauled through Ashford at 19.25 by 73 118 and 73 130.

9267 is at f1.8 1/30
9268 to 9270 are at f1.8 1/15
9271 is at f1.8 1/4 ( hand held! )
