I thought I’d try the Uber app for a ticket purchase today, for travel tomorrow, but couldn’t find any option to add a PlusBus ??
Deliberate policy, or an oversight?

I'm guessing that's because Omio haven't added it to their booking engine. I've sent them a message about it.

I've been frequently purchasing Uber gift cards on sites such as Airtime Rewards or occasionally Amazon / Tesco gift cards if they have an offer. Until yesterday, I've always been able to add the 16 digit / letter code to my Uber account as a voucher code so I can use it on both train tickets and rides. Yesterday though, I got an error code when adding it with a message that I couldn't add it and instead, needed an Uber money account. So, I created one and, as has been mentioned previously, can't redeem the Uber money balance against train tickets. Any idea why the same type of code couldn't add as a voucher code and whether I might have this problem going forward as I've been forced to open an Uber money account and would like to go back to getting a code, entering it as a voucher code and being able to buy train tickets? Thanks.

I haven’t found a way to redeem gift vouchers in such a way they can be used for rail tickets once an Uber Money account has been created

The workaround in my family is to use my wife’s Uber account for all ticket purchases

Understood. I don't know why in this instance all had changed and I was basically forced to create an Uber money account to redeem the voucher. Any idea on the possibility of deleting Uber Money part of the account once the credit has been used?

Not possible I'm afraid, although you can create a new Uber account.

Got a response from Omio and still can't say one way or the other.

Query
I regularly buy UK rail tickets through Uber, a white label client of yours (i.e. they use a rebranded form of your booking engine).

I am unable to buy PlusBus* add-on tickets from them, which I presume stems from being unable to buy them directly from you. Do you have plans to make them available for sale on your booking engine in the near future?

Response
Thank you for getting in touch with us at Omio. I hope that you're doing well.

I really appreciate the interest about your preferences regarding your travels.

At the moment, we don't have any update about having available this service with us, but we are still working on having more traveling partners to improve the service to our costumers. Hopefully in the future we will be able to provide the service that you prefer with this one.

We will take very seriously this kind of feedbacks, costumers like you are our motor.

Please feel free to contact me with any further questions.

AI would probably know the difference between a costumer and customer. But yes I don’t think anyone at Omio has actively comprehended what you were asking.

In my former career, a surprisingly large number of people whose first language wasn't English wrote "costumer" when they meant "customer"; this always gave me a chuckle due to the image it conjured up in my mind.

It wouldn't surprise me if whoever has trained the Omio chatbot has fed it similar data that has caused the same mistake.

I am interested in whether anyone has experienced the following phenomenon.

I booked a return journey from London to Bradford using Uber ticketing, to benefit from the 10% rebate (better in my pocket than theirs, etc.) — the itinerary was outbound via LNER into Forster Square and back via GC from the Interchange. Fine.

But for both journeys I requested a backward facing table seat (my preferred position) and on both I received an airline-style seat (backwards on outbound and forwards on return).

This is of course completely unscientific and could be a coincidence, but i do normally find that my seat reservation preferences are honoured when I book via the LNER or Grand Central websites. Of course preferences are subject to availability but it seems odd they were not available on both legs of the journey.

Any idea if Uber is designed in this way (to "ignore" seat preferences) or whether it's more likely I just got unlucky and it happens these seats just weren't available? There are definitely fewer tables on board the GC service I'm currently travelling on compared to others I've used in the past.

Cheers

Reservations that are provided depend on what the Rail Availability and Reservation System (RARS). All ticket retailers use this in (more or less) the same way. There is no control over what is returned - only over what request is sent. I'll check anyway.

Be warned it seems Uber have made a major change to gift cards that could be costly

I think I'm going to stop using Uber for Advance tickets unless they're for immediate travel. Their mechanism for amending tickets is a service desk-type system where you have to wait 3-4 days for a reply.

Can’t you just book the replacement ticket without waiting for the reply ?

I'm stopping using Uber too - disappointed that the credit never seems to show for journeys in March. Maybe once it arrives I'll reconsider

The forum's site has a seat selector, so you can get the exact seat you want.

If you want more information regarding the seating options available, many operators produce PDFs which can be cross-referenced.

LNER's seat map is backwards; their own website then reverses it. I understand that LNER refuse to amend it, because it works for them. So, when using the forum's site, I suggest cross-referencing with the PDF.

Note that Grand Central services can face either direction; I am not aware that GC attempt to face a particular direction (but someone can correct me if they do; but even if they do, they don't achieve it consistently). Also, I'm not sure how forwards/backwards requests are fulfilled for trains that reverse, such as LNER's London to Bradford services (which usually reverse at Leeds, though they don't have to); presumably it's taken from the point your reservation starts from, but someone else could no doubt confirm.

Uber's model is the opposite of the forum's site; the model appears to be to entice people with offers (that are unsustainable and/or cross-subsidised from elsewhere in the business, and may not always be forthcoming) and not to focus on providing good customer service.

I currently use Trainline for all my journey bookings. I just really like the app and the desktop site. I have used it for years.

In the experience of those on this thread, should I switch to Uber? Is the 10% credit back for your next tickets a genuine offer? Is there any small print I need to be aware of.

I use the train every week. My repeated journeys are Carlisle to Euston, return, with Avanti, and also a few weekly journeys on Southern and ThamesLink, I spend about £3000-3500 a year on tickets, so 10% back seems too good to be true.

I always buy advance singles where I can.

Thanks

Most Uber users are being/have been migrated to "Uber Money" accounts rather than the traditional Uber Credits.

This means you can't use the 10% for train tickets, and instead only Uber rides or Uber Eats.

I don't bother with Uber now I've been forced over to this system.

@MrJeeves - I don't think that's correct. Even if you are switched to Uber Money, the 10% rebate still shows up as an Uber credit which CAN be used for rail tickets.

If you're switched to Uber Money, the limitation is you can no longer spend gift cards on rail tickets which prevents you from stacking discounted gift cards with the 10% rebate for even bigger savings.

Whilst the 10% deal continues, I will continue to use Uber for tickets. It's a great deal (even if obviously unsustainable).

If I were in @Hedge Fund's position I would be using Uber to buy my tickets.

Thank you. Looks like I will be switching to Uber and seeing how long the 10% deal lasts.

I presume it does the same as Trainline and looks for split tickets etc?

I think there is some ticket-splitting functionality but not as slick as other sites. The interface is also fiddly if you are used to Trainline etc but for 10% off I'm willing to put up with it.

If you already know what fare/ticket you need, it's fine to buy via Uber.

Once the 10% offer ends (currently end of August) I'll be back to LNER

In my experience it is best used for simple A-to-B tickets, with anything complex purchased elsewhere.

Well that didn't go well....

I have just tried to use Uber to buy tickets for the first time (on desktop) and it keep defaulting my return ticket to same day!

Am I doing something wrong? I'm trying to book outbound for a Monday and then return on a Wednesday, selecting the date range (which then shows correctly) but then when I choose the trains it keeps defaulting to same day return!

Arrrrrgh! Really annoying!

I think the web interface is a very new addition.

The web version seems to be full of nonsense - tells me CrossCountry runs from Waterloo to Basingstoke

Well that was interesting.

The desktop/web was absolutely horrible, and simply didn't work. It would not let me, no matter how hard I tried, and how many times I tried, to select different dates for the different legs of my return journey.

I then tried with the iOS app, and it was perfect. Much easier and clearer than the web version, and... gave me a promotional £5 off my first booking which wasn't even offered to me by the web version.

I've booked my first couple of return journeys with Uber so will see how it goes.

I note the 10% credits aren't given until the journeys are complete which seems a bit odd, but there we go.

One last one from me...

Does the Uber iOS app alert to things like delays or cancellations with app popups/notifications like the Trainline app does?
